Why this project matters

Properly managed forests are carbon sinks - meaning they capture and store large amounts of CO2. According to the EPA, U.S. forest ecosystems offset approximately 9% of our nation’s greenhouse gas emissions. Add the other benefits like improved groundwater and habitat where biodiversity can thrive, and it becomes obvious why forests play such a vital role in nature’s balance.

The Afognak Forest Carbon Project helps ensure old growth forest continues providing long-term carbon storage, and a home for a variety of biodiverse wildlife including Kodiak brown bear, river otter, bald eagle, and five different species of Pacific salmon.
