Introducing 2% for People

When forming Offset Alliance in 2019, for a number of reasons we decided to pursue becoming a Certified B Corporation, rather than obtaining 501(c)(3) status.

As part of our business model we committed to donating a portion of our profits to 501(c)(3) partner charities whose work is foundational to ours-that directly improves lives, and indirectly ensures that the positive environmental impact we’re making through CO2 reductions can be sustained well into the future.

Last year, amidst widespread social unrest and the Covid-19 pandemic, we made an important decision to modify this commitment, and now instead of committing a portion of our profits, we are committed to donating 2% of our top line revenues to our 501(c)(3) partner charities. This ensures more guaranteed support from Offset Alliance.

We are happy to introduce our 2% for People partner charities, and why we choose to support their work.

Urban Surf 4 Kids

Mission: provide opportunities for healing and empowerment through surf therapy, mentoring, and life skills achievement programs for youth in foster and at-risk communities

Why we choose them: younger generations will either build upon our positive environmental impact or reverse it. Urban Surf 4 Kids helps hundreds of foster youth each year to develop skills that will be foundational to their success throughout life, and their ability to make their own positive impact on people and planet. Through surfing they are creating a connection with, and appreciation for our oceans and coastlines, and in turn developing the next generation of ocean and nature stewards.

San Diego Food System Alliance

Mission: cultivate a healthy, sustainable and just food system in San Diego county

Why we choose them: too many in our society aren’t having their most basic daily needs met-mainly food security. This problem is exacerbated by the combination of food waste and limited or no access to food options that provide healthy nourishment. San Diego Food System Alliance’s work is increasing community-level awareness, engagement, and programming in the food system-to eliminate greenhouse gas producing food waste, and alleviate food insecurity so that more in our community can become active participants in making southern California more climate resilient.

Paso Pacífico

Mission: restore and protect the endangered dry tropical forest and coastal ecosystems of Mesoamerica's Pacific Slope

Why we choose them: strengthening communities and regenerating forests and biodiversity in tropical regions are widely considered to be some of the most important actions we can take to lower global CO2 levels. Paso Pacífico’s innovative conservation work is centered on improving the well-being and economic power of rural communities in Central America (currently Nicaragua and expanding to El Salvador). Engaging local youth through a comprehensive Junior Rangers program, and empowering local women to play a stronger role in community leadership through the development of a new aquaculture farm cooperative, are just a couple examples of how Paso Pacífico is improving environmental practices in a region we all need to be healthy, so our planet’s climate system can be in balance.
